Elle Holloway: The town seems empty. All the stores are closed or boarded up. What’s going on?

Judge Holloway: It’s complicated, Alex. A lot of things have happened since you left.

Alex Shepherd: I noticed a banner out front that said something about an anniversary.

Judge Holloway: Yes, the town’s 150 year anniversary.

Alex Shepherd: But wasn’t that celebration, like, years ago? I thought I remembered being here for it.

Judge Holloway: You’re right. Things tend to stay in one place around here. I guess it’s time we took that down, huh?

Alex Shepherd: You’ve got a lot of clock parts in this place. There a reason?

Curtis Ackers: Yeah, there’s a reason. For fixing clocks! Haven’t you noticed that every single clock in this town has stopped at exactly 2:06?

Henry Townshend: Five days ago… that’s when I first had the nightmare. I haven’t been able to get out of my room since then. The phone doesn’t work… the TV doesn’t work… I can’t even get anybody to hear me when I yell… My whole world has suddenly turned insane. My door’s chained up, the windows are sealed shut… And on top of that, someone chained the door from the inside. How am I going to get out of here?

The blank letter.

• In the English version of Silent Hill 2, a line from Mary’s letter to James reads, «You promised you’d take me there again someday, but you never did.» What the translation doesn’t capture is the fact that Mary blames not James but herself (and her illness) for this.
• Jeremy Blaustein revealed in an interview that Monica Taylor Horgan cried after narrating Mary’s letter.
• Checking the letter frequently, along with Mary’s photo, will increase the chance of obtaining the «Leave» ending.
• If the player checks the letter, James reveals it is in Mary’s handwriting; however, following the fight with Eddie Dombrowski, all the writing disappears, leaving James with a blank piece of paper. After viewing the in Room 312 of the Lakeview Hotel, the blank piece of paper disappears completely. Finally, after James encounters Pyramid Head for the last time, the envelope disappears. This implies that the letter never physically existed in the first place and instead was either a figment of James’s imagination or a manifestation created by the town in order to draw James back to Silent Hill.
• In Dead by Daylight: Chapter XVI — Silent Hill, Mary’s Letter appears as a Rare Offering. It tremendously increases the chance to be sent to Silent Hill when burnt.
