Zou Arc (Episodes 751-779)

Sanji and several other crew members of the Straw Hat crew were separated from the rest of the group, ending up on the island of Zou. When Luffy and the rest of the gang find them on the island, they see that they’ve predictably landed in another geo-political struggle that needs resolving.

Marine Rookie Arc (Episodes 780-782)

The gang is now back together. Sanji and some of the other crew members raid a Marine base to gather food for their journey’s next leg.

Whole Cake Island Arc (Episodes 783-877)

The Straw Hat crew arrive at Whole Cake Island, where they aim to defeat one of the dreaded Four Emperors of the pirate kingdom, Big Mom (Mami Koyama). In doing so, Luffy begins a path to become one of the Four Emperors himself. This places him in an elite club alongside Blackbeard, Buggy, and Luffy’s inspiration and mentor, Shanks (Shūichi Ikeda).

Levely Arc (Episodes 878-889)

The Levely Arc showcases the aftermath of the defeat of Big Mom. Not only does this increase the Straw Hat’s reputation among the ocean’s pirates, but also increases Luffy’s notoriety with the World Government.

Live-Action Luffy and Usopp Re-Enact One Piece Anime’s Most Iconic Scene

The Netflix One Piece live-action’s Luffy and Usopp join the anime cast as they recreate one of the most iconic scenes from the entire series.

Every great shonen journey starts somewhere, and for Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro, that somewhere is One Piece’s Romance Dawn arc. During this brief One Piece arc (which comprises the show’s first three episodes), Luffy makes his desire to become the Pirate King known far and wide, starting with his pink-haired acquaintance, Koby.

In addition to Luffy, viewers also receive their first glimpse of Roronoa Zoro during the Romance Dawn arc — the swordsman’s iconic introduction in Shells Town is still a highlight of the series over two decades later. One Piece’s Darkest Theory Reveals How Likely It Is Luffy Will Die Young

Luffy has done many things during his adventures to shorten his life expectancy. Rubber pirate or not, if he keeps pushing himself, he’ll soon die.

One Piece’s Reverse Mountain Arc only consists of two episodes, but despite its brevity, it introduces multiple characters that will likely play a role in the series’ final saga. Crocus, Laboon, and Nefertari Vivi all make their on-screen debut during this stretch, which officially signals the Straw Hat Pirates’ entry into the Grand Line.

Laboon’s attempt to break through the Red Line and reunite with the pirate crew that left him behind is a striking image, and given its connection to Brook’s addition to the Straw Hat Pirates, it’s easily one of the highlights of the Alabasta Saga. This, as well as Crocus’ relationship to Gol D. Roger and Vivi’s connection to the World Government, is a major reason why the Reverse Mountain Arc has aged like fine wine.

What is the Story of One Piece?

One Piece chronicles the story of Monkey D. Luffy, who puts together a pirate crew in an effort to acquire the fabled “One Piece” treasure and become the next pirate king. The former pirate king Gol D. Roger left behind this treasure. The plot begins in a world populated by pirates and develops into something more exquisite and unpredictable.

One Piece’s tale is broken up into major sagas, each of which has its own sub-sagas. The sub-sagas include a collection of arcs. These arcs are divided based on the islands Luffy and his crew visit. When they touch down on a new island, the arc begins. When they depart for another location, the current arc ends and marks the start of the new arc.

13 The Amazon Lily Arc Revolves Around The Infiltration Of Impel Down

Episodes 408-417

When the Straw Hat Pirates are forcibly separated by Bartholomew Kuma, each member of the crew is devastated by their loss. However, in the case of Monkey D. Luffy, he doesn’t have time to bemoan his circumstances, and during the Amazon Lily Arc, he develops a plan of action to stop the impending execution of his brother, Portgas D. Ace.

With the help of Boa Hancock and her followers, Luffy plans an infiltration of One Piece’s most secure location, Impel Down. While the Amazon Lily Arc isn’t very long, it’s instrumental in setting up one of the most memorable One Piece sagas, Marineford.

The Fish-Man Island Saga

The Fish-Man Island Saga is divided into two story arcs: The Return to Sabaody and the Fish-Man Island arc.

• The Return to Sabaody Arc reunites the Straw Hat Pirates after two years of training. They finally regrouped to continue their journey.
• The Fish-Man Island Arc is jam-packed with mystery, starting with the existence of Joy Boy. The story arc also revealed that Princess Shirahoshi is the present Poseidon. In addition, Big Mom’s name also came to light. Luffy was also able to hear the Voice of All Things.

31 The Orange Town Arc Begins With The Straw Hats In Dire Straits

Episodes 4-8

When the Orange Town arc begins, the Straw Hat Pirates are in dire straits. Neither Monkey D. Luffy nor Roronoa Zoro possesses any navigational abilities, which results in them floating adrift until they stumble upon the quiet island housing Orange Town.

By the end of the Orange Town arc, Luffy and Zoro are introduced to two characters who go on to play major roles in One Piece’s narrative: Nami and Buggy the Clown. The introduction of these two characters alone would cement this arc’s place in One Piece history. However, thanks to a few fun fights between the Straw Hat trio and the Buggy Pirates, this arc also slots among the show’s best.

22 The Drum Island Arc Ends With Chopper As The Ship’s Doctor

Every One Piece arc that results in a new member of the Straw Hat Pirates is extremely noteworthy, and the Drum Island arc is no exception. With Nami battling a life-threatening illness, Luffy and his crew arrive on Drum Island desperate for a doctor to join their ranks.

Luckily for the Straw Hats, they encounter Tony Tony Chopper — a reindeer-turned-doctor determined to cure all the world’s diseases. His touching backstory, the arc’s despicable antagonist, Wapol, and the struggle of Drum Island’s inhabitants all serve as the perfect backdrop for an addition to the Straw Hat Pirates.

The arc is one of the goofier in the series, with the Straw Hats engaging in a silly contest against a weak crew of pirates, which has led some fans to view it purely as filler. But this attitude ignores how the lighthearted parts of One Piece are some of what makes the story so unique and fun. In addition, the introduction of the incredibly strong Admiral Kuzan is an important moment that single-handedly justifies this arc’s inclusion among One Piece’s best.

18 The Long Ring Long Land Arc Is Great For Laughs But Little Else

Episodes 207-219

Smack in between two of One Piece’s most beloved sagas lies the Long Ring Long Land Arc. Although it would be easy to write this arc off as filler, that’s unfortunately not the case. The Long Ring Long Land Arc is remembered for many reasons, several of which highlight the sequence’s shortcomings.

When the Straw Hat Pirates return from Skypiea, they almost immediately arrive at Long Ring Long Land and encounter the Foxy Pirates. What follows is a competition between the two crews that ultimately results in little change to either side, accomplishing little other than providing fans with a few cheap laughs before the Water 7 Saga.

Long Ring Long Land Arc

After winning a series of games against Foxy the Silver Fox, a pirate who challenged the Straw Hats to a bunch of games where the winner gets crewmates from the losers, the crew encounter Aokiji, one of the Navy Admirals whose strength is relatively immeasurable to them.

Water 7 Arc

After barely escaping from Aokiji, the Straw Hats search for a shipwright to join their crew in the affluent town of Water 7. Here, tensions arise among crew members as Robin and Usopp leave due to differences and matters get worse when the crew gets framed for attempting an assassination of Water 7’s Mayor.

Enies Lobby Arc

The Straw Hats team up with the Franky Family and the Galley-La Company to save Nico Robin from Enies Lobby, a stronghold of the government and where the assassination group CP9 is based. This arc starts a chain reaction of events that has major implications in the future as this attack by the Straw Hats is taken as a declaration of war against the World Government.

Post-Enies Lobby Arc

After the battle in Enies Lobby and tearful goodbye to the Going Merry, the crew acquires their new ship, The Thousand Sunny. Franky joins the crew and following a heartfelt apology from Usopp, he is also allowed to re-join. In another corner of the world, Ace battles with Blackbeard as Shanks makes his move to protect him. We are also finally introduced to the Four Emperors.

30 The Syrup Village Arc Is When Usopp Comes Into The Picture

Episodes 9-18

Although the formation of the Straw Hat Pirates technically occurs in One Piece’s first episode, it isn’t until the Syrup Village arc that the group finally starts to feel like a cohesive unit. By the end of their struggle against Kuro and the Black Cat Pirates, Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Nami are all firmly committed to one another as friends.

Kuro’s dastardly plan to annihilate the inhabitants of Syrup Village forces the town’s loudmouthed sniper to spring to action. Because of his courage, the Straw Hat Pirates defeat one of the East Blue’s most heinous pirate crews. Despite being one of the shortest entries in the list of One Piece arcs, the events of Syrup Village are substantial enough to justify a rewatch for even the most die-hard fans.

Held up as one of the best anime dubs in history and widely considered to be better dubbed than subbed, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the story of two brothers, Edward Elric voiced by Vic Mignogna, and Alphonse Elric voiced by Maxey Whitehead, who are on the hunt for a philosopher’s stone to fix their grave mistakes.

There are plenty of amazing voice acting performances in FMAB, including Travis Willingham as the lovable (and hate-able) Roy Mustang, Colleen Clinkenbeard as the tough-as-nails Riza Hawkeye, and Troy Baker as the redeemed Homunculus Greed. These iconic voices bring each character to life like never before, each nailing their role effortlessly. The English version of the series still sees a wildly positive reception to this day, easily making it one of the greatest dubs under Funimation’s umbrella.

The East Blue Saga

The East Blue Saga is divided into six story arcs: Romance Dawn, Orange Town, Syrup Village, Baratie, Arlong Park, and Loguetown Arc.

• The Romance Dawn Arc marks the beginning of One Piece, following Shanks’ influence on Monkey D. Luffy to become the next Pirate King. Along with the young and awkward Koby, Luffy set out for Shells Town to recruit Roronoa Zoro. They also encounter Axe-Hand Morgan and his son, Helmeppo.
• The Orange Town Arc introduces Buggy the Clown at Orange Town. This is where Luffy teamed up with Zoro and Nami to free the town’s citizens from Buggy’s rule.
• The Syrup Village Arc takes us to Usopp as Luffy, Nami, and Zoro search for a ship to use. After Usopp gets into trouble, the Straw Hats face the Black Cat Pirates. They also obtained Going Merry.

• The Baratie Arc takes us to Sanji, who was working as a cook in a seaside restaurant called Baratie. At the time, Don Krieg attacks the Baratie to use the ship to go back to the Grand Line. This arc also introduces Mihawk and, of course, the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
• The Arlong Park Arc reveals Nami as a member of the Arlong Pirates. She led the Straw Hats to the Fish-Man pirate called Arlong. But at the end of the arc, Nami officially joins the Straw Hat Pirates, and Luffy finally gets a wanted poster!
• The Loguetown Arc takes us to Gol D. Roger’s birth and death place—Loguetown. This is where the Straw Hats encounter Smoker, a powerful marine captain. Reverse Mountain Arc (Episodes 62-63)

The arc that star of the Arabasta Saga is even shorter than the Romance Dawn Arc, being only two episodes long. It’s significant, though as the Reverse Mountain is the treacherous entryway into the Grand Line. Not only do the Straw Hats meet a fearsome giant whale, but they also see that they have a duo of bounty hunters on their tale.

Whiskey Peak Arc (Episodes 64-67)

After passing the Reverse Mountain and gaining a Log Pose (a compass-like device to help navigate the Grand Line), the Straw Hat crew arrive at Whiskey Peak. The island seems to be home to the Tortuga of the One Piece universe, functioning as a safe haven for pirates. That’s how it appears on the surface, but there’s much more to the mysterious island.

Diary of Koby-Meppo Arc (Episodes 68-69)

The following two episodes reunite audiences with Helmeppo (Kôichi Nagano) and Koby (Mika Doi) — two minor characters who appeared back in the Romance Dawn arc. The Diary depicts the two polar opposite personalities as they train to become noble Marines.

Little Garden Arc (Episodes 70-77)

Circling back to Luffy and the Straw Hat crew, their next stop in the Grand Line is an island home to two giants locked in combat. They also have a proper battle with the hunters tracking them, known as Baroque Works, who seek to collect the hefty bounty on Luffy.

Drum Island Arc (Episodes 78-91)

The Drum Island Arc adds the first new crew member to the Straw Hats for the first time since the Baratie Arc, and its the strangest addition yet. When Nami gets sick, the Straw Hats desperately search for someone to heal her. They find one in a talking, anthropomorphic reindeer of all things named Tony Tony Chopper (Ikue Ôtani).

Arabasta Arc (Episodes 92-130)

Yes, it’s confusing that there is an arc called the Arabasta Arc inside the Arabasta Saga, but that’s only because this is the most significant arc. This comes after the Straw Hats learn that Baroque Works is seeking insight into a war in the province of Arabasta, with the puppet master of this act of warmongering being led by the mysterious Mr. 0 (Ryûzaburô Ôtomo). The Straw Hats also get another crew member in, archaeologist Nico Robin (Yuriko Yamaguchi).

Post-Arabasta Arc (Episodes 131-135) *Filler*

Another filler arc that can be skipped, the Post-Arabasta arc largely centers on some solo anthology stories of most of the Straw Hat crew.

This has not gone unnoticed by the world’s bounty hunters and the World Government, who seek to stop Luffy from getting to the New World at any cost. Another foe they’ve attracted is an old one from their past named Kuma (Hideyuki Hori), who kickstarted the new saga by defeating Luffy and sending him to another island.

Amazon Lily Arc (Episodes 408-417)

The other island that Luffy is sent to is Amazon Lily, and it could not be worse place for the pirate captain. It’s a place 100% populated by women, and Luffy has to figure a way out of it if he hopes to reunite with his crew.

Straw Hat’s Separation Serial Arc (Episodes 418-421 and 453-456)

Impel Down Arc (Episodes 422-425 and 430-452)

While still on his own, Luffy learns that his brother, Portgas D. Ace (Toshio Furukawa) has been taken prisoner in the Impel Down prison. With the help of some of the allies he made while on Amazon Lily, Luffy tracks down the location of his brother to try and save him. Unfortunately for our hero, Ace has already been shipped to another location.

Little East Blue Arc (Episodes 426-429)

A prequel to the feature film One Piece Film: Strong World, the Little East Blue Arc is only essential if you want more context on said movie.

Marineford Arc (Episodes 457-489)

The Marineford Arc depicts the all-out war between One Piece’s main heroes and villains. The Straw Hats, the rival pirate crews, the World Government, and more are all vying for control of the oceans. All this occurs while Luffy is trying to find the true location of his missing brother.

Post-War Arc (Episodes 490-491 and 493-516)

The climactic battle at Marineford led to casualties on all sides. This includes the tragic death of Ace, leading to a rare moment where the typically cocky Luffy is humbled and scared by the future challenges that he and his crew may face. They take the end of this arc to mourn their losses and plan their next move.

Toriko Crossover 1 (Episode 492)

In an attempt to excite the new anime adaptation of Toriko, Shonen-Jump had the idea for a two-part crossover episode. Keep in mind that this is the second part while the first part is the pilot episode of Toriko.
